“Government to change legislation to make ‘consolidation’ of pharmacies easier”
PSC welcome the news that the Government is looking at strengthening the protection offered to contractors who have choose to consolidate their pharmacies under new regulations introduced in December 2016.
Whilst pharmacy owners are increasingly considering this as an option to deal with the relentless funding pressures, many are reluctant to pursue this option as they feel the current regulations leave the door open for new competitor applications as soon as a new PNA is published.
Whilst we are still waiting for further details on the proposal to be published, PSC have supported extending the period of protection to at least 5 years after the consolidation has taken place to give pharmacy contractors greater certainty when it comes to protecting their business from competitor threats while the consolidated pharmacy ‘beds in’
